Making Scrapbook Rooms

My wife has been after me to help her set up a scrapbook room in our home. I have been scouring the internet looking for scrapbook rooms to get some inspiration. There are so many great ideas out there so I thought I’d write some down in this little article to help me sort out my ideas and get me started in making some progress on a scrapbook room for my wife.

Why Make Scrapbook Rooms?

The main reason why I am planning on making a scrapbook room in our home is to satisfy my wife! She has been after me for some time to help her out in this area. Since I have the construction experience, she has come to me. If you were to ask my wife why she should have a scrapbook room, she will tell you this:

1. A place is required to store scrapbook supplies
2. A place is required to create scrapbook layouts
3. A place is required for me to call my own, gain some solitude, and to also be able to entertain my crafty friends in a crop

Now that I have the function of the scrapbook room determined, I can go about deciding on the space that will be required to serve that function.

Where to Make Scrapbook Rooms?

Our house is quite large so there are actually several options that might work here. Keeping in mind that my wife has a lot of scrapbooking supplies, I have limited my selection to dedicated rooms only. In other words, I have decided against going with a shared living space and instead going with a room that can be used specifically for scapbooking only. Some ideas that came to mind initially are the following: a guest bedroom, a room in the basement and the dining room.

I have decided to go with the room in the basement option. The main reason for this is because our house is such that the basement entrance is at ground level and there are plenty of large floor to ceiling window for lighting making it not appear as though you are in a basement at all. At the same time it still provides a.) adequate lighting, b.) privacy c.) a separate entrance for guests coming to crops.

So this is my plan of attack for creating a scrapbook room in my home. I’ll try and keep you posted on how it goes!

That is so funny and nice of you to do that for your wife. My husband is in the exact situation. He first started out converting one of our closets, then realized how much my scrapbook supplies expanded. I know your wife will be so HAPPY!

I love it! I too have a great husband who understands the scrapbooking wife and her space! We have just finished re-creating my scrapbook space. My area is in the basement as well. It is a room off our rec room so although “i have my own space I can also be with the family too.
I have found of good ideas online and some I have incorporated into the new layout.
One Item I love is I have half a wall that is peg board. I found clear acrylic boxes, bins, shelves to hold my tools and other supplies so they are handy.

The other thing we did which helped a lot is we took our time in the planning stage. It took 4 designs before I had what I wanted.
I’m hoping to video my room and post online so others like us can get ideas for their rooms.

  3. I find the best scrapbooking supplies are found around the house or at general store, such as dollar stores. Look for everyday items that you can add to your scrapbook. Around the house, the more personal an item is, the better. Items such as event programs, menus, cards, receipts, or anything else that will lend a personal touch and dress up your scrapbook are great.
